The Great North Air Ambulance Service is continuing trials to see if a Jet Suit paramedic is a viable option to improve response time to patients in remote areas.
The program started in 2020 with the goal of accessing patients in the Lake District a popular vacation destination, known for its glacial ribbon lakes, and rugged mountain terrain.
Currently the program has enabled one paramedic to complete their first free flight operating the Jet Suit unassisted, with more paramedics working toward that stage soon, The Great North Air Ambulance Service said in a press release.
The Great North Air Ambulance Service hopes that by this summer paramedics flight skills will be at an operational level to provide aid to patients in the Lake District.
Andy Mawson, Director of Operations at GNAAS, said: “We think the Jet Suit paramedic will speed up the response to some hard to access patients in the Lake District, and allow us to reach more patients. But in order to know for sure, we are putting it to the test.
